Blog, blog, spam, blog and spam

On Wednesday, my daily views got up to a mighty 93. Today I realised that these daily figures might be less impressive than they appear: over the last fifteen days there have been 201 attempts at spamming my blog. If visits by spammers are counted in the blog stats it slashes the number of genuine visits to probably less than half what it appears. Since I’ve been doing this blog there have apparently been over 5,000 spam messages and only a little more than 9,000 visits.

On the other hand, maybe WordPress automatically discounts such hits.

that seems to be kind of how it goes up here on the public wordpress. i would be totally inundated without my Akismet. but as i understand it, Akismet only blocks the spam, it’s not tied into WordPress hit metrics.

which, given the fact that somewhere near half my visitors seem prone to search on nude photos of Condoleezza Rice for some strange reason (it’s not like a run a porn site for goodness sakes!), when you add the spam in there, i’ve got an audience of a handful of dedicated visitors. such is life, i guess.

Perhaps you could refrain from mentioning nude photos of Condoleezza Rice? I’m very tempted to do a web search for exactly that, now.
